Monitors

A Monitor looks for one Match term, a word or phrase, in your Followed Communities. Every post it finds becomes a Result. You create and change Monitors on your Project's Monitors page, which lists each one with its Tags, its scope and its Excluded terms.

Create a Monitor

On the Monitors page, type a Match term and pick its Tags with the Tags button. It opens a list of your Project's Tags: tick the ones you want, or type a new name and press Create. The Tags you pick show as chips beside the button. VoxUno starts looking for the Match term in your Followed Communities straight away.

To change a Monitor's Tags later, edit it on the Monitors page: its edit dialog has the same Tags button.

A new Monitor first looks back, once, through each Community VoxUno searches, for earlier posts that match, with no time limit. From then on, VoxUno checks every Community daily, around the clock. Some Communities can't be looked back through: VoxUno reads them by their newest posts, so a new Monitor finds posts there from its next daily check. Communities says which.

Match terms

A Monitor has exactly one Match term. A post matches when the term appears in its title or its body:

  • as whole words: java doesn't match "javascript";
  • exactly as written: no plurals or other forms of a word, so invoice doesn't match "invoices" or "invoicing", and a phrase's words must come together, in the same order;
  • ignoring capitals: alternative to jira matches "Alternative to Jira".

To catch both "invoice" and "invoices", create a Monitor for each. Each Match term can only be on one Monitor of your Project.

A Monitor's Match term can't be changed. To look for something different, create a new Monitor, and delete the old one if you no longer want it.

Excluded terms

An Excluded term is a word or phrase that stops a post from matching. Excluded terms follow the same rules as Match terms: whole words, exactly as written, ignoring capitals, in the title or the body. A post that contains any of them isn't a Result.

You can set them in two places:

  • On a Monitor, up to 20, for that Monitor only. jira with the Excluded term Excluded term: hiring leaves out job posts that mention Jira.
  • On the Project, also on the Monitors page. These apply to every Monitor.

Changing Excluded terms applies from the next daily check. Results you already have stay.

Scope

A Monitor watches all your Followed Communities, including any you follow later. To narrow it, choose the Communities it watches instead. When a Monitor starts watching a Community it hasn't watched before, it looks back there once, as a new Monitor does.

Changing a Monitor's scope applies from the next daily check. Results you already have stay.

Pause a Monitor

A paused Monitor finds nothing new until you resume it. Resuming doesn't look back for posts written while it was paused. Its Results stay, and it still counts toward your Plan's limit.

Delete a Monitor

Deleting a Monitor archives it. It stops looking, and it leaves the Monitors page, the Monitor filter on your Results and the Digest. It no longer counts toward your Plan's limit.

Its Results stay. They keep showing its Match term and its Tags.

If you later create a Monitor with the same Match term, it's a new Monitor.

Suggest more

Press Suggest more on the Monitors page, and VoxUno suggests Match terms from your Business Profile, leaving out the ones you already have. They're listed under Suggested Monitors. Each Suggestion shows its Match term, the reason it was suggested, and its suggested Tags beside its own Tags button, where you can change them. Press Add to create a Monitor for it, while you're under your Plan's limit. Nothing is added unless you add it.

You can ask for Suggestions 3 times a day, or once a day during a trial. When you've used them up, VoxUno says when you can ask again.

Your Plan's limit

Your Plan sets how many Monitors your Project can have:

  • Entry: 5 Monitors
  • Standard: 10 Monitors
  • Advanced: 30 Monitors
  • Business: 50 Monitors

Paused Monitors count toward it; deleted ones don't. At your limit, creating a Monitor asks you to upgrade your Plan instead. Nothing you have is switched off. See Pricing and Plans and billing.
