Communities

A Community is a place your Monitors look: a whole site, such as Hacker News or one forum. You choose which Communities your Project follows, and your Monitors look for their Match terms in them. You manage them on your Project's Communities page.

What a Community is

A Community is a whole site, never part of one. Reddit, Hacker News, Bluesky and GitHub Discussions are each one Community, and so is each forum and each Stack Exchange site. You can't follow a single subreddit, tag, repository or forum section: you follow the whole site, and focus on what matters to you with Match terms and Excluded terms.

Featured Communities are Communities we offer to every Project. You'll find them in Setup and under More to follow on your Communities page. Communities We Support shows today's Featured Communities.

In Setup, VoxUno ticks its Suggestions for you and offers the Featured Communities unticked: you follow only the Featured ones you tick yourself. Getting started walks through Setup's Communities step.

Follow a Community

Your Communities page lists the Communities you follow, each with its status. Under it, More to follow offers your own Suggestions you don't follow yet, then the Featured Communities. Press Follow to follow one.

When you follow a Community, every Monitor that watches all your Followed Communities starts watching it too. If VoxUno searches the Community, each of those Monitors first looks back through it once for earlier posts that match, as a new Monitor does.

Pause, resume or unfollow

  • Pause a Community, and your Monitors find nothing new in it until you resume it.
  • Unfollow it, and your Monitors stop looking there.

Either way, the Results you already have from it stay.

Add any site

Paste a site's address on your Communities page, or in Setup:

  • a Stack Exchange page adds that Stack Exchange site;
  • any GitHub address adds GitHub Discussions;
  • a Reddit, Hacker News or Bluesky address adds that site;
  • any other site is matched to a Community VoxUno already knows. If VoxUno can collect from it, you're following it now.

If VoxUno can't collect from it yet, it waits in Pending review while our team reviews it, usually within a few business days. You can follow it straight away, and its Results start if our team approves it.

Addresses that don't load are refused. Each Project can add up to 20 new sites a day.

Statuses

Each Community you follow shows its status on your Communities page, when it has one. That's where you see each change. The Digest doesn't mention them.

Pending review

Our team hasn't approved the site yet. You can follow it, but nothing is collected from it until it's approved. Then the status clears, and collecting starts.

Rejected

Our team decided not to collect from the site. Hover over its status, on your Communities page or in Setup, to read our reason. Where we gave none, you read "VoxUno can't monitor this Community." instead. Its follow is paused. It's offered to you no more, and stays on your Communities page until you unfollow it.

Temporarily unavailable

VoxUno has failed to collect from the site three days in a row. It keeps trying every day, and the status clears the first day it works again.

Paused

You paused it. Resume it to start looking there again.

Suggest more

Press Suggest more on your Communities page, and VoxUno suggests more Communities from your Business Profile, leaving out the ones you already follow. They appear under More to follow, each with its reason, and you follow one only when you press Follow. A suggested site VoxUno can't collect from yet waits in Pending review, like a site you add.

You can ask for Suggestions 3 times a day, or once a day during a trial. When you've used them up, VoxUno says when you can ask again.

No limit on Communities

Every Plan lets your Project follow as many Communities as you like. Your Plan limits only your Monitors: see Plans and billing.

What VoxUno collects from each site

VoxUno checks every Community daily, around the clock, and reads it one of two ways:

  • Searched: VoxUno searches the site for each Match term. A new Monitor looks back through it once for earlier posts that match, with no time limit unless the table says otherwise.
  • Listed: for a site whose search VoxUno can't use, VoxUno reads its newest posts each day and matches them against your Monitors. There's no look-back: a new Monitor finds posts there from its next daily check. Setup's preview leaves listed forums out.

Each forum is searched where it lets VoxUno use its search, and listed otherwise. Our team settles which when it approves the forum, so for the forums below, it depends on the forum.
